The Story of

Torgerson Canyon

On the high point of Belle Isle Road, right along Torgerson Curve, there lies the deep canyons that form every summer right after a heavy rainfall.   The rain have been known to wash several yards of fine gravel down the hill to Grandt’s  Pass, flooding out everything in its path, hardly blinking an eye as it flows through Eric’s Emptiness.   Nobody has dared to venture back to the origin of this driving force, but it is believed to originate somewhere around Haugrud’s Heavenly  Plateau, before gathering more force along the level plain near  Block’s Bluff.

The old timers tell the story of how these canyons came to be....  One of the fellas talks about how the water use to flow along the meadows and get dispersed.  Nowadays it becomes a torrent that takes out the terrain.   This change is the result of the actions of a warrior, known only as “Robby the Grader Guy.”   He had this massive piece of machinery that he would use summer and winter to get back at the ordinary people that would cross his path.  He had the support from a panel of rulers.  The most powerful ruler at the time was known as “Dave the Christian”.   These rulers “nestled” monthly behind a long table that was placed in front of the paupers.   Twice a year the paupers were forced to submit their riches to a central location.  Their hard earned money would then redistributed to this local panel of rulers.

One day there was a great battle fought at this canyon.

The way the story is told...

It was a sunny Sunday afternoon.   The canyon had been recently formed by an torrential rainfall.  The pink and yellow power rangers were out exploring.  The adventure was extremely dangerous because any one of the Belle Isle gods could come along and cave in the unstable side walls of the canyon.   These power rangers were hearing the sounds of the gods periodically yelling

Hello ..... Hello......Hello.....Hello......

Later in the day they would hear:

“Helwo .... Helwo...... Helwo......Helwo....

What strange behavior for the all powerful, but they seemed friendly.

All of a sudden, the power rangers heard some noises off in the distance.  It wasn’t the normal sounds of the gods and their enormous four wheeled transport vehicles.  It was the sound of “other” plasictoid creatures.

They looked behind them and saw  lego  horses fast approaching.  Where did they originate?   (Andrew’s basement?)

The power rangers picked up their pace to try and outrun the steeds.

Just when they thought that they may be clear from the danger they came across Darth Vader, spiderman, and a cowboy.

Could it get worse?

Yes.  Then there was a massive dragon fly approaching from the gravel prairie above.  The plastictoids looked for a place to hid, but it seemed like this canyon went on for miles.

They thought to themselves what kind of extreme force was it that formed this freak of nature.

They made a mental note that they should return and watch the sunset.

At the end of their adventure, they stepped back and admired the magnitude of this great site.  They wondered if it  would remain untouched for others to enjoy the beauty.

Deep down they knew  that sometime soon one of the powerful rulers would send out the machines to further change the terrain.

Until then,  we can just enjoy the beauty.

And remember the battles that have been fought in the past.
